Updates on poker activities

Unites States of America

The US currently has a significant number of cases of people infected with COVID-19. However, a lot of its states are pushing for economic recovery by opening its doors to business.

Choosing to stretch the limitation and innovate as the virus is not yet under control, The Venetian poker room will be holding a tournament this September.

To minimize the risk of spreading the virus, they have Shifted the tournaments to shootout, putting barriers in between players, enforcing a face mask policy, and limiting bystanders are some of the innovations.

In countries where there is still a problem with COVID but needing to ease the restrictions to save the economy. They could be the example other countries could follow.

Will Asia follow?

Taiwan

Taiwan was able to contain the spread of the virus due to its effective system. A poker room in Taiwan is also celebrating its 5th year by holding a major tournament with not many restrictions.

However, the question is: “can they continue in effectively containing the spread of the virus?”

Poker is growing in Taiwan. They may become the center of poker in Asia if they can maintain this growth.

The Philippines

The Philippines is a vital point in the growth of poker in Asia. It is one of the countries that have fewer restrictions on operating independent poker activities.

They have poker houses operating for more than ten years and has a good player base.

However, the virus hit them hard and now has more than 250,000 people infected with COVID.

They have implemented lockdowns or quarantine measures to curb the spread of the disease.

The other problem they are facing is the need to open the doors for business. Quarantine measures are slowly relaxed to help the economy.

The IATF, which is the main body overseeing the implementation of safety regulations, has eased up on social distancing issues on transport. Gaming companies have slowly begun to re-open.

Whether poker will be allowed to operate soon is still a question we are waiting for an answer.
