A fourth poker establishment has opened in Metro Manila. it may not be as big as the other poker rooms. but The master is actually one of the first few poker rooms that has opened in manila that is still alive.

It is a piece of great news as it shows there are people who are pushing forward.

Master poker room

The master poker room was one of the earliest poker rooms that opened its doors in Malate more than a decade ago.

GHL, The Players den, Room 18. the poker room in the old Hyatt. there were a lot of poker rooms and houses that opened their doors more than10 years ago in Malate. They were part of the key rooms that push poker to be more recognizable in Malate.

Master was the poker room in Malate that started the push to have daily tournaments in Manila. Prior to Master, Malate was not active in tournaments.

The only room that was active was in another part of Manila which was the Metrocard club.

We do wonder how many players still have the first card protector that Master gave away for their first major tournament?

The shutdown

The Master did have its own fair amount of closing its doors over the years. From changing owner to even the change of location.

But it was the pandemic that made the Master close its doors this time around. The last lockdown greatly affected its operation and Rumors have begun circulating it might have close its doors for good.

But it looks like the Master will prove that it is still alive and kicking as it re-open its door yesterday. and rumors have it the action was great.

But for how long?

The Market

The market is definitely more competitive than ever. the boom of online poker and people scared of contracting the virus could deter people to come back to live games.

Even now poker rooms are averaging only 2-4 tables. It may not be that easy to get the players to come back.

Malate is also one of the older parts of Manila. A new poker room will re-open its doors. Malate is considered to be a Korean town. so the players there could be enough to support a small room. but that is if they would prefer to play in a smaller room. 

We did pay them a visit and there was 1 active table and they promise a group of Japanese players are on their way. However, we did not stay long to find out if it is true.

Malate is still good, as the nightlife there is quite nice. If you are coming from Metro manila. it is actually a great location. Hence there is a rumor that a new poker room is opening. 

Still, for those players who are feeling nostalgic. Master poker room is back and ready to serve you. 

How to get to the Master poker room.

The Master is located near the Adriatico circle in Malate. just at the back of the club known as Zzyx. There is a Korean grocery in front of it and you can park your car near the front as there are people that can assist you.
