Lockdown Blues – Manila Returns to ECQ – August 6-20, 2021
Publish date: July 31, 2021

Hey, poker playas!

Metro Manila will remain under general community quarantine with “heightened and additional” restrictions until Aug. 5 but will revert to the strictest enhanced community quarantine on Aug. 6 to 20.

ECQ is the strictest form of community quarantine which some refer to it as the lockdown.

Although it is not yet clear the limitation. it is generally accepted that limited people can only go out of their homes.

Here is the original guide for ECQ.

  • Movement will be limited to accessing essential goods and services and for work in offices or industries permitted to operate.
  • Any person below 21 years old, those who are 60 years old and above, those with immunodeficiency, comorbidity, or other health risks, and pregnant women are required to remain in their homes at all times, except when going out is indispensable for obtaining essential goods or for work in industries permitted. The same applies to the people who live with them.
  • Transit by permitted persons to and from establishments with full operational capacity, at 50% operational capacity, or with a skeleton workforce anywhere within the area covered by ECQ is allowed.
  • Public transportation shall be suspended. This does not include commissioned shuttle services for employees of permitted establishments, as well as point-to-point transport services provided by the government.
  • The movement of cargo vehicles will be unhampered. These, as well as vehicles used by public utility companies, BPOs, and export-oriented establishments, will not be subject to an ID system.

A realistic view of how it would affect poker.

Live poker rooms might take a while before they can re-open once again.

Base on the record. the first hard ECQ took almost 10 months before we have seen the poker room reopened.

Classification in the Philippines normally goes

ECQ – MECQ – GCQ

Normally the President announced dates going half a month to the end of the month. The unusual ending of the ECQ. it could mean that an extension already plans but only announced to soften the blow.

Poker rooms were only allowed to operate during GCQ.

However, the transition from ECQ which could be extended normally goes into MECQ. It means that you are looking at a possible 1 and a half month of no Live Poker games at the earliest.

If you add more realistic factors, you are looking at least 2 and a half months earliest.
