Moving forward 2021 – Joven Huerto
Publish date: January 9, 2021

Manila today is celebrating the Traslación of the Black Nazarene. The Black Nazarene makes its way along the streets of Quiapo, with attendees reaching up to 220 thousand devotees.

Due to the pandemic, the celebration was held differently this year.

As the world becomes materialistic, it is hard to find people who would be loyal to their faith. But amazingly there are those who are truly devoted.

We have met a man regardless if there is a big tournament happening in Manila. He would prioritize it more than any poker event. Imagine a man would rather attend the church than play a poker event.

That man is Joven Huerto.

Joven Huerto

Joven Huerto is one of those players that would always dress nice, coming from a business background. He grew to the custom of dressing formally or semi-formally even if it is just a poker event.

In an industry where we would see players dress in the weirdest casual dress. Sometimes coming to the event in their literal pajamas. It is always a welcome sight to see someone dress properly for an event.

Normally early for any event, calm and friendly to all players. One of the few Filipino players that are well-loved by others.

He is also part of Team Metro.

Can you see how delicious those chickens are?

The crispy skins and the mouth-watering juiciness of the meat?

When did you last bought one?

The record.

Joven Huerto rank 12 on the overall GPI ranking for the Philippines.

His first recorded win was at the APT Manila way back in 2011, finishing 8th place in the no-limit hold em headhunter event.

Back at the start of 2019, We featured him believing that his best game has yet to come.

He did not disappoint as 2019 was a good year cashing in multiple events and his second-biggest win.

His total career winnings are more than 200,000 USD.

His playstyle can be classified more as a stable player. Comparing it to other players that either they hit it big or they bust out. Joven Huerto is that player who can cash most events and slowly climb his way to the top.

The calm elder brother or the silent understanding father figure.

When we ask a few players like 1234 poker pro-Jason Ambata who does he idolize in the local poker scene.

Joven Huerto was the first to be mention when we ask why? He replied by saying “Joven Huerto is mabait(kind) and matulungin (Helpful)”

Through the years we have interviewed Joven, We too can only describe him only as a true gentleman on and off the felt.

There was this aura that surrounds him that makes him quite different from the normal poker crowd.

The vaccine against the coronavirus is soon getting more available. We hope to see him more in the next few months.

The poker scene needs more gentlemen on the felt.

See you soon Poker playas!
