Goodbye June, Hello July.
As we are now in the second half of the year 2020, July looks so good as the world has slowly started opening and online poker tournaments with big guarantees are all over the place.
Pokerstars Summer Series and the WSOP online on GG poker and WSOP.com are the top choices to play. There are also small tournaments weekly online from the like of PP Poker.
The opportunity to win it big there but being able to grab it is not that easy. In order to win you need to be in top shape both body and mind.
For this week, here is our tips to help you focus your mind and get into the zone.
The Zone
The zone is a state of mind where while you are playing and you are so focused on a task that the world around you disappears and you’re perfectly focused.
It feels like you’re on autopilot. Nothing can go wrong. You are aware of the players on the table, you know there next move, you can perfectly read them and everything comes naturally with no friction.
It is the perfect state of mind that every poker player wants to be in every time they play. Here are the tips on how to get to the zone.
1. Know you objective and goal
To get into focus, you must learn to know what you are focusing on. There is a difference between “I want to be the champion of the main event” to “I will be the champion of the main event”
There has to be a clear goal that you are aiming for and that you will focus to do your best.
Understanding your goal will allow you to slowly understand the step by step and the necessary tools that you need.
2. Research
From the most basic which is knowing what time the tournament starts and structures to understand your own skills and capabilities. These are just basic things you need to look into for preparing.
You need to focus on the game, not understanding how fast the blinds go up could spell disaster to your game and caught you off guard.
In order to win you need to be focus 100% hence researching the basics could help you later on.
3. Prepare
Having the right set up for the long grind is important, from having a comfortable chair to ensuring you have enough buy-ins on your online account before the start of the tournament is just the basic.
You want to be as comfortable as possible during the long grind as such making a list of the things you would need is vital before the start of the game.
4. Practice
Poker is a mental game, the mental part can be strenuous. A bad beat at the wrong time can destroy your game.
You can start playing small tournaments first playing it as the tournament you wanted to win. Play the event like it was the main event daily.
Take notes of your mistakes and keep improving them.
5. Set new good habits and routines ahead of time.
Creating a schedule helps put your minds on focus. create a schedule and you can even add some good habits.
Having a routine actually pushes your mind that on a specific time it needs to be the focus.
schedules are already released so setting the routine a few days before the event is actually recommended.
6. Before the tournament, review your notes
Review your notes, what was the mistake you did. what are the things that you need to remind yourself? Have a checklist of the things you need to make sure that you have done to ensure a smooth game.
7. During the tournaments, make notes
Making notes during playing is actually helpful in maintaining the zone. as there can be numerous distractions during the time your playing. taking notes keep you in focus while playing.
8. After the tournament, review your notes
Make sure you did not miss anything, assess your notes, and think about what else you can do to improve your game. what else can you do to improve your game?
9. check on your significant other
No matter how tired you are after the game, check on your significant other. Do not disturb them to rant but be there for them and ask them how they are doing.
Ranting to them will not help. telling them stories of your bad beat will only get you down.
Instead, talk to them and ask them how they are but stick to the positive.
10. Sleep and rest.
The best way to make sure you can perform 100% is to make sure you have a proper sleep. Although it might be difficult for some players. Remember playing poker is a marathon, not a sprint.
Having enough rest is very important.
Stay safe and hope to see you on the felt poker Playas!
