Tips for live players shifting to online.
Publish date: June 10, 2020

A lot of live players have shifted online due to the pandemic and have found out how different the games are.

There is nothing wrong with that, in an old article we have read before. A Poker pro played online for the first time and went on a massive downswing.

One thing he realizes that online is totally different and had to relearn the basics. it took him a while but he started winning again.

Here are a few pieces of advise that could help you plug the leaks in your game.

Online games are faster

On the live felt, the average hand per hour can run from 25-30 hands per hour. this is due to a lot of breaks in between hands. from players talking and sharing stories to ordering food while it is his turn. In a live situation, we seldom make an issue out of this.

Online the normal hands played can range from 60-80 hands per hour. That is because clocks are already set at a given speed.

The change of pace can affect your game. Whereas on live games you can take your time until someone calls the clock. online everyone is on the clock.

Be mindful of the change of pace.

Invest on a good set up

One of the best things about online poker is most online poker companies allow you to play multi-table.

But scrolling from one table to the next can be very confusing. stacking them makes you miss out on what happened to other previous hands that may help you form a better read on your opponent.

You do not need to buy a very expensive chair but instead of stacking tables. Having at least a two-monitor setup, or laptop with one external monitor is a great way to start.

Online players are focus on mathematics and logic

There are a lot of online players who do this thing for a living. Most of them are playing more than 1 table, Which means they will almost play like robots and would play their hands base on mathematics and logic.

You don’t have the benefit of seeing people’s faces or who they really are in real life if they are using an alias.

Understanding the mathematics and logic of their playstyle can give you an edge.

Online tools and third party Apps

There are built-in online tools at your disposal normally from the online poker room itself. From the simplest to taking notes or being able to review your hand.

Taking notes of players often times can help you in a huge way. Unlike life where you can recognize the players, you played against. online you only have a name.

Making a note of his playstyle can help.

Reviewing your hands is also possible, this way you can review your action base on what really happens instead of recollecting.

Third-party apps to help you record you up and downs are also good but kindly check with your provider if such apps are allowed.

Research on the site you will be playing

Before you play, understand, unlike live poker where you just need to head to the cashier to cash your chips or winnings. online.

What is the system for cash out? how long does it take? how to deposit?

What are the policies against collusion and bots? how strict are they?

If it is a home game app, how trustworthy is the club owner?

Do not be fooled by high rake back offers. Even if you are given a high rake back but if you are up against a team of the club. it would be difficult to win.

Study

Whether you are playing online or live. it is important to always keep an open mind a learn new things.

Players have changed. Players now understand a lot about the game than before. Currently programs like raise your edge, Masterclass series is also good and currently GTO.

You can research them online. Exchange notes with friends. No matter how good you think you are. there is always rooms to improve.

Good luck poker playas!
