Hey, Poker Playas!

Since the reopening of the poker world post-pandemic, the industry has undergone significant changes that are palpable with each passing day. Emerging stars have made their mark, while new leaders and alliances have formed, reshaping the landscape of the game. What was once deemed unimaginable has now become a reality, marking a dynamic and transformative period in the world of poker.

Change will always be part of life, if we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow we arent really living.

But what are those changes that is now affecting the poker industry? are the effect good or bad?

Read on to find out.

The rise of DCamps

DCAMPS

Getting hotter!

March proved to be a stellar month for DCamps, clinching two notable victories. While DCamps has previously secured wins, the latest triumphs stand out.

First, DCamps emerged victorious at the Araw ng Dabaw tournament held at the Metro Card Club Davao.

Following that success, they went on to secure another impressive win at the 5th Anniversary event hosted by the Voyager Poker Club in Cebu. These back-to-back victories underscore DCamps’ prowess on the felt, with their winning streak only interrupted by a loss in Manila.

This achievement holds significance as it marks the first concerted effort by the group to achieve a sweep across multiple events. While other poker groups have aimed for individual victories in specific events, DCamps took it a step further by targeting wins in tournaments held in various parts of the country. This strategic approach represents a new milestone in their journey, highlighting their ambition and ability to compete on a national scale.

Indeed, this achievement symbolizes more than just a random target; it embodies a collective goal that drives unity and pride within the group. Conquering tournaments across different regions of the country is no small feat, especially considering the unpredictable nature of poker events in various areas. This shared objective transforms the group from mere hopefuls into contenders with a clear intention to establish dominance. While their setback in Manila may have been disappointing, it serves as a reminder that another opportunity for success is always on the horizon.

IVP CUP 2024 – Uniting a Nation

IVP CUP 2024

Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao

The IVP Cup, an annual tournament commemorating IVY VP’s birthday, may seem like just another event named after a player, considering the abundance of such tournaments. However, it holds significance beyond its name.

Following the pandemic, the IVP Cup has consistently surpassed expectations, organizing larger and more extravagant gatherings each year. In the previous edition, it hosted extravagant poker celebration in Cebu to date.

But other poker parties are better?

While some may argue that nightly poker parties are commonplace at major events, the scale and grandeur of the IVP Cup’s festivities set it apart.

It was held every night since the start of the tournament.

However, Ivy VP has set her sights on a new goal. While some poker rooms may be selfish and even discourage discussion of other venues, Ivy VP takes a different approach.

While other poker rooms might opt to celebrate just once to cut costs, IVY VP chose to host the event nightly, emphasizing the warm hospitality of Cebu.

In collaboration with other poker rooms, pre-events will be hosted in various regions across the country, culminating in a grand event at her flagship venue, the Voyager Poker Club in Cebu.

More details to follow soon so stay tuned!

There are no shortcuts

One of the driving forces behind these changes is the increasing competition within the industry. While Manila poker rooms have historically benefited from PAGCOR’s protection, often hosting sub-par tournaments, it’s ultimately the players who have suffered. PAGCOR’s strict rules on tournament schedules, which are frequently violated, highlight the lack of consideration for the players’ voices.

As a result, many players have opted to travel to different Asian countries to compete instead of remaining constrained by the limited offerings in Manila. This shift underscores the growing awareness among Filipinos that they have options beyond their local poker scene.

Change is indeed underway, and it’s being driven by both DCamps and Ivy VP.
