PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship

The first PSPC was held on January 6 – 10, 2019. it was the talk of the town as it aimed to become the biggest poker event in history.

With a $25,000 buy-in and a minimum prize pool of $8,000,000 but also $1,000,000 added for the winner. it was the event poker players were gunning for.

The build-up to the event was quite big as there were a lot of ways to win the seat. players were gunning for the ticket.

From 575 USD to more than 2.1 Million USD

there were quite a few good stories about the PSPC. but for Asia. it would be the Marc Rivera story.

Marc Rivera is one of the most respected players in the Philippines.  not only due to his game but as a true gentleman in and out of the felt. One of the best cash game players in Manila and stories of how disciplined he is on the felt can be heard from other local players. He is a great poker player but what he did for the PSPC was an inspiration to other Filipinos.

APPT MANILA National Event 2018

Marc Rivera was inspired to join more tournaments due to his teammate’s big win in WSOP. in an interview with top10ppokersites. he had this to say.

We were all together during the World Series; that was the first time that Mike won a bracelet for the Philippines and it has inspired a lot of players, including me. It’s probably this inspiration that made me win in this event.

His friends Lester Edoc and Mike Takayama win a coveted Platinum Pass each and secure a seat to the PSPC 2019. He told himself he would win a seat in APPT Manila and he did.

Securing the seat by winning the APPT Manila National event. he was on his way to the PSPC.

PSPC Bahamas

A lot of Asian players did win the seat. from a social player to the first Filipino to win a WSOP bracelet.

But it was Marc Rivera who made a record by finishing 3rd place. winning more than 2.1 million USD. Filipinos were tuning in and cheering him all the way. Even if he did not become the champion. it was a great victory for the Filipinos and an inspiration to new players.

PSPC Barcelona 2020

In the midst of the European Poker Tour Barcelona last August. Pokerstars announced PSPC 2.0, This time it will be held in Barcelona.

the 2020 Platinum Passes will once again be worth approximately $30,000 (€26,466). Included will be the €22,500 PSPC buy-in (~$25,000) and money for travel and expenses including a six-night stay in Barcelona for the player and a guest. players were excited about this news and were trying to win a seat through various ways that Pokerstars were giving it out.  The players were excited.

The Pandemic – COV19

It was in the month of December that we heard the news about the possibility of a contagious disease coming out of China. In a few more months countries were going into lockdown trying to contain the disease.

As poker tournaments and tours were being canceled left and right. there was uncertainty on whether PSPC will push trough.

In order to protect the players while the vaccine is still not available. Pokerstars made the decision to postpone the PSPC for the safety of the players.

However, Pokerstars is now giving more seats.

186 players have received Platinum Passes, but PokerStars announced that 80 more Platinum Passes will be given away, taking the total to 400.

“In the coming months, we’ll bring our players even more ways to win as we make this event a true celebration that brings the PokerStars live events community back together again. It will be worth the wait.

“We are working tirelessly and will keep you posted as soon as we have more details to share on this, or the status of other live events currently scheduled.”
