Hey, Poker playas!

Preparing to go to Gensan later for the GPC Cup 2 of the Gensan Poker Club in General Santos City.

We love covering the South, it is a growing market that one day we know someday could rival Manila and compete with the other Asian markets.

Meanwhile, Manila is struggling as it has to contend not only with the poker room in Manila but with the growing Asian competitor who wants a piece of the pie.

How could the south compete?

An opinion

The frog in the well

Quite recently two opinions were overheard which reminds us of the story of a frog in the well.

A frog was born inside a well and to him, there is nothing bigger than the well, A bird flew by and told him about the vast land and oceans.

The bird tried to convince the frog, but the frog chose to stay until the bird left.

After the bird left, the frog muttered to himself how the bird was trying to trick him and how there can be no other place bigger than his well.

The frog in the well mentality

Going back to the incident, we overheard the management of a poker room patting themselves on the back. Making a decision and as it worked well for their room, they believed they are doing the right thing and will once again do it.

*The exact thing was removed so as not to be used against the poker room itself.

A few weeks back, a player believed that because a person ranted against the casino that is why the service was better.

Because people have limited capabilities and power. what they believe is base on their own experience. but it doesn’t mean they are right either.

Short Term and long term

From a point of view

From time to time, we often hear this thing from the organizers.

“di naman yan target market namin” or its not our target market. “Wala kasing pera ang Pinoy” or Filipinos have no money. There are excuses we often hear when a tournament goes bad.

It is sad that it comes from a narcissistic point of view believing what they have done is right. It is everyone’s fault but their own.

Being the one from the outside and having visited so many rooms. Nope, the fault is in the management. And there is a reason.

The South is doing things better because they care for their clients. They honestly listen.

Let us talk about food, if you go to the south. even a 500k tournament will have a buffet. In Manila, it is rare to have it served. but if they ever make one, there has to be a photoshoot and players should be grateful and thankful.

Wala daw budget or there is no budget for such things.

Nope, Let us say something works in another poker room. The tendency of some of the managers from poker rooms is to steal the idea and make it as cheap as possible.

The focus in the short term. forget about the long term.

Talents leaving Manila

The proof

If you look at what is currently happening now in Manila. Slowly talented Managers, poker players, and everything else have been slowly leaving Manila.

Ask the biggest and most well-known local poker player how much has a poker room helped his career. You might be surprised.

It was never how talented you are but it is about how good you are at kissing assXX.

So should you leave? No!

Stronger

It is not about dissuading the players. it is about having a more realistic point of view.

If you want to make it big in the poker world. The one thing you have to do is work harder, study harder than anyone else that you know.
