Looking Back – RVS 2021
Publish date: November 23, 2022

Hey, Poker Playas!

After cvoering 5 events non-stop. Finally, we get to have a rest and be able to catch up on the things we have missed.

2022 is about to end and 2023 is right around the corner

It was a year ago that we started covering events again. Back then some organizers did not even have photographers for their events.

Everyone was just restarting.

Thanks to an organizer giving us a time out. it gave us more time to relax and do some of the stuff we may have missed.

The covering of Events is draining. Now we can rest and do other stuff. Time to change some of the banners and design of the website.

Something hot is coming soon. Stay tuned!

RVS Cup 2021 – THe first Semi Live tournament after the pandemic

RVS CUP 2021

PHP 1 Million GTD

November 21, 2021
day1’s were held online
day2 Live

Champion Adrian Brion

It might be hard to imagine that a year ago, tournaments were just coming back. Seeing that almost every week there is a new tournament happening.

It was November 21, 2021, when the first semi-live tournament was held on the Philippine shore.

Semi-Live as Day1’s were held online. only the final day was held live.

As there were no photographers back then due to strict quarantine measures. The only Media presence was PCA.

RVS Cup 2021 – quarantine measures

Covering events back then was a pain in the ass. thick barriers and social distancing were observed.

Metro Card Club was strict on this matter. Imagine they even installed a sink outside the room to make sure everyone clean their hands before going in.

There was this one word that was being heard most of the time. “Sanitize” as every time a player got busted out. before anyone could sit down. they were wiping the chair and the table of the old player to ensure its safety. They were strict about it.

RVS Cup 2021 – The Tournament

The tournament went without a hitch. as quarantine measures were in place and it was the first poker event after a long time.

Even we wonder who was part of the final day as we were not keeping a record of it back then.

For the final 8 we have the record. tables were only running 8 handed back then

Players went out fast when it hit the final table. One after another players were eliminated. here is the list.

RVS Cup 2021 – The Tournament

RVS Cup 2021 – The final 4

The Final 4

Arian brion
Raphael Bulaong
Vamerdino Magsakay
Nick Filart

What made the final four special? it lasted for more than 4 hours before finally, something broke the ice.

Nick Filart had the chip lead and he knew how to use it. the bet sizing was perfect as he would bet just enough to scare off the weak hands but just enough if he felt his opponent had a higher hands and fought back,

Vamerdino Magsakay was playing the odds. he knew what hand to raise during what position knowing the odds of whether he might have the better hand.

Raphael Bulaong was pure defense. He knew when to defend his blinds but was attacking when he needed to.

Adrian Brion was playing passive from our point of view. Maybe we are wrong but since social distancing was observed. we never got to his side of the story.

4 hours nobody moving an inch. They had the same stack. the blinds were going higher.

Then was crucial hand change all of it. after Adrian Brion hit Raphael Bulaong. Nick Filart fired a raised pre-flop. A shove was responded to By Adrian and a snap call by Filart.

Filart had a pocket jack while Adrian had Ace-King. Lady luck Favored Ian and the king came out on the river.

Both Raphael and Filart tried to fight back, but Ian had the lead and Raphael exits and 4th and Nicky exits at 3rd.

Ian Had the massive chip lead. Vamerdno tried but the lead was too much.

Adrian “Ian” Brion was crowned the champion.

RVS Cup 2021 – The Tournament

Fast forward today

Nowadays tournaments are held almost every week. Vamerdino Magsakay went on and even became the first Filipino to win a Sunday Million event, Nicky Filart Ran deep in this year’s WSOP.

We rarely see the other two players nowadays.

It is actually great that we have an extended time out from coverages.

We do have plans to lessen our coverage to focus more on the stories that are not told and other stuff.

See you soon Poker Playas!
