An interview with Janno Alvarez
Publish date: March 2, 2022

Hey, poker playas!

This time we have another special interview. Janno Alvarez.

Earlier this year, we put a spotlight on the players that we should look forward to in 2022. We even put him on the Bad Boyz list.

He is not a bad boy in any way. it just that his beard and his look on his stare on the table could make you think twice of calling him.

He is actually a great person and very friendly. He was running hot in the poker felt until the pandemic hit.

Now that tournaments are back. players are shinning and it is sad where the system only pays tribute to champion and their hands. never their stories.

There are many great players in PH and here a quick interview to know more about Janno Alvarez.

Coffee Cups and Q’s

Did at any point in the tournament did you feel you would hit the final table?

Actually, at the start of day 2, I felt that I have a good chance of making the final table. I had a decent stack and I feel pretty good playing that day.

Who was your toughest opponent on day 2?

Prolly Iori because he was always on my left and knowing him he is running a perfect GTO.

Who was your toughest opponent on the final table?

Everybody who made the final table was tough to play against but I only played 5 hands at the final table so I would say Jomak because he was the one who busted me. KQ vs AA (nakatapak LOL)

Did you have any regrets about any move you made during the day?

Did you have any regrets about any move you made during the day?

There was this hand that I would have played differently. When Iori raised and Takayama 3bet all in and I had 88 I folded then Iori called with A10 off. If I called with 88 Iori would have definitely folded and I will hit my set on the flop bringing my chips to 800k, then I would have had a fair stack going in to the final table.

Did you have any inspiration during the tournament that kept you pushing?

Of course my family is my best inspiration and also that elusive spadie that I’ve been longing for quite sometime now.

Did you learn any lessons during the tournament which you want to share?

Just keeping your composure is really important. During the day I always had an above average stack then I got hit putting my stack to around 150k I think. I just kept my composure and knowing that all I need is a good spot to shove my chips to go above average again.

Any advice for poker players who wants to play big tournament.

Just make sure you don’t jeopardize your bankroll in one big tournament. And selling action also helps.

Do you want to thank anybody?

would like to thank PokerCast Asia for the interview. And also Joseph Sia, Emman Segismundo and boss Joven Huerto for giving some advice. Lastly my gf for allowing me to play hahaha. On to the next!
