The story

Are players just numbers? of course not! The world is changing so much as two years of lockdowns have drained people.

It’s time to work!

Many poker rooms are opening or re-opening in Metro Manila. Metro card club now have daily tournaments.

Players are hungry and they deserve more.

so let get on the story

Day 2

Enrico De Rosa was goliath entering day 2. He had more than 700k chips. He was the obstacle if any Filipinos were to win the warm-up event.

There were quite a few foreigners that entered day 2. but it was Enrico De Rosa that made a huge impression as he had a massive stack. He was not just the chip leader of Flight 1B, He was the overall chip leader.

But Emman Segisumundo and Edgar Asehan were not too far behind. The chip leader of 2 other flights. They are champions and they are there to bring pride to the Philippines.

One after the other, the chip leaders slowly eliminate the crowds.

ActionPH team pro Jason Ambata tried his best but him coming in day 2 with the shortest stack was too much to handle. There was no magic samaritan this time around.

Even the team captain of the ActionPH also fell short. Dave Spade tried his best. but in the end. he too failed to make it to the final table.

It is not that they were not good but in such a high pace structure. one mistake could mean victory or defeat.

Metro team Pro Joven Huerto too was a victim of the cruel hands of fate. they are great players, but it just was not their time.

The Final 8

Entering the final table. things began to change. it is now the final 8. it is time for a harder battle to begin. The higher mountain to climb. The final table of the top 8 players of that event.

Regular cash game player Michael Bueza was the first to go. followed recent Special tournament side event champion Ronn Ryan Mesina.

Richard Castillo, who recently won the bad beat jackpot (the winning hand) held as best as he could but still fell short.

Kozumi Okuyama put in a great fight. but against the other monster. there can be only one.

The Goliath, David, the bishop, and Godzilla.

The final four was the truly decisive battle to know who would be crowned the champion.

Enrico was the giant. The goliath. A regular in the high stake cash game so he is no stranger to the pressure of the game. he defended his lead in such a beautiful fashion that the question began to raise. Could the Filipinos really overcome such a feat?

Yes, they did.

Renniel Galvez, like the character from the stories of old, he might be a small man. but he had the heart of a lion. He was ready to take all of them on.

Edgar Asehan, the Bishop, the adviser, and friend of the current greatest homegrown Filipino poker player. an up-and-coming poker player who has been hitting records both live and online and can be the next WSOP bracelet holder.

And then there was Godzilla, Emman Segismundo!

Emman from day 1 was like Godzilla. slowly swimming towards day 2. Every boat and fish that crosses his path was destroyed. small sharks and whales, Godzilla was on his way to the final table. and nothing could stop him.

Upon the final table. stepping on solid ground after the long swim. Godzilla let out a huge roar. He was taking no prisoners. and in the final table. there were no friends. he was not beaten in any showdown on the final table.

They were no collusion, everyone was gunning for the money. but let us admit that chop 3 ways are better than 4. the chop is best suited when 3 or 2 players were left.

Someone had to go.

As the goliath was ready to swing his clubs. he was all in ready to take on another victim. Avoiding Emman “the Godzilla” nuclear breath and the Edgar “the bishop” Asehan holy attacks. Renniel “David” Galvez saw an opening, fixing his slingshot, he launch his attack and called the giant all-in. Hitting the giant where it hurts busting him out in the process.

The Giant fell down, everyone look at each other. after a long game. everyone was tired. everyone lost their taste for blood. they decided on an ICM chop 3 way.

Godzilla had the most chips, David came in second and the Bishop came in third. they decided to flip who would be the winner.

And as Ladyluck smiled at Edgar Asehan. it was Edgar the was declared as the official champion.

Everyone was happy with the spoils of war. but who is Edgar Asehan? Who is the newly crowned champion?

Stay tuned!
