CHASE CUP 2025 – the aftermath
Publish date: May 29, 2025

Hey, Poker Playas!

As Chase Cup 2025 comes to a close, the momentum doesn’t stop at Voyager Poker Club. On the horizon is the next big tournament — the IVP Cup, scheduled from June 9 to 15, and already generating buzz within the community.

But before we shift focus, let’s take a quick look back at the Chase Cup 2025 — a tournament that redefined what’s possible for provincial poker in the Philippines. Despite going up against three major events in Manila, Voyager Poker Club not only hit but exceeded the ₱3M guarantee, showcasing Cebu as a serious poker destination.

Behind the scenes, it was more than just cards and chips — it was a collaboration of passion, purpose, and community. From international players flying in, to local grinders proving their mettle, and a room full of heart, this was a tournament built on grit, love for the game, and a vision for Cebu poker’s future.

The ₱500K Freeroll Freezeout was the perfect curtain call — the room was packed, the tables electric, and the energy unmatched. Cebu showed up. Cebu delivered.

Now, all eyes turn to the IVP Cup. Bigger stakes, new stories, and another chance for heroes to rise.

Stay tuned. Cebu poker is just getting started.

The planning

The Chase Cup 2025 had been in the works for over a year. But as with any long-term plan, certain key elements still had to fall into place — from scheduling to logistical approvals. With poker rapidly growing across the country and competition intensifying, there was never a truly perfect date. Even PAGCOR, which oversees the local scene, can only do so much, especially with regional events across Asia overlapping schedules.

In the end, the tournament was anchored on a date that mattered most — the birthday of Chase Cokaliong. It became more than just a tournament; it became a celebration. To ensure a strong turnout amid the crowded calendar, satellite tournaments were held — helping secure player participation and building momentum leading into the main event.

Building Momentum Through April

The path to the Chase Cup 2025 wasn’t just a leap of faith — it was a calculated climb, brick by brick. Starting in April, Voyager Poker Club ran a series of mid-stakes guarantee events, designed to build traction and test the waters of the competitive poker landscape.

Among the notable champions from these events were Rusty Co, Wachilei Kim, Peter Ang, and even Chase Cokaliong himself. These victories not only energized the local poker scene but gave Chase the final push of conviction — that despite heavy competition from bigger rooms and overlapping schedules, the Chase Cup had to happen.

It wasn’t just about a birthday celebration anymore — it was a statement. The community was ready, the momentum was real, and Voyager Poker Club was determined to push through.

Against All Odds: One Room vs Four Giants

The event was set — the Chase Cup 2025 had a date, a venue, and a vision. But what no one fully anticipated was how steep the climb would become.

Originally, it was supposed to be Voyager Poker Club vs. one major tournament in Manila — a competitive challenge, but manageable. However, in the weeks leading up to the Chase Cup, the landscape shifted dramatically. One by one, three more poker rooms in Manila launched their own events on the exact same weekend, transforming the scene into a David vs. four Goliaths battle.

What was once a birthday celebration turned into a defining moment for Cebu poker. With four major Manila tournaments drawing attention, Chase Cup was suddenly the underdog, fighting for visibility, attendance, and respect.

But in true Cebuano spirit — it pushed through.
