GERARDO LUBAS
ROAD TP APL I CHAMPION
Although the official start of APL Manila is still a few days away, the action has already begun with the Road to APL event—and it was none other than the Philippines’ own Gerardo Lubas who drew first blood.
Arriving just in time before registration closed, Lubas wasted no time getting down to business. With his signature aggressive play, he steadily built his stack, outlasting the competition until only two players remained.

Chierro de Leon put up a commanding performance at the final table, dominating much of the action. However, a single misstep turned the tide, allowing Gerardo Lubas—who once held only 20% of the chips in play—to seize the momentum. De Leon fought back valiantly, nearly evening the stacks once more, but in the end, Lubas sealed the victory in dramatic fashion.
AJ Acdal’s deep run came to a heartbreaking end at the hands of Lubas. Holding trip threes on the river, Acdal checked, only to face an all-in shove from Lubas. Both players had hit trips, but Lubas had the card that completed a full house, sending Acdal to the rail. It was a thrilling showdown, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying APL Manila!
Another player worth mentioning is Jerson Asne, who once again found himself at the final table at Prime Poker Club Manila. A consistent force in the local poker scene, Jerson has built a reputation as a regular final table contender. Notably, he once secured back-to-back victories in Prime Poker Club Manila’s 1M GTD events—an impressive feat that solidified his status as a serious competitor.
With APL Manila on the horizon, could this be the moment that propels him to the next level? Will this be his biggest break in the local poker industry? Stay tuned to find out!
