Looking back – June 2022

Chris Pasion – CHampion IVP CUP 2022

Back in 2022, as the world began to reopen after the pandemic, the poker community slowly started to come back to life. It was during this time that a small but ambitious poker room in Cebu extended an invitation for us to cover their event: the IVP Cup 2022. With a modest 1 Million GTD prize pool, the tournament was a significant milestone in the resurgence of live poker events, especially at a time when such events were rare and highly anticipated.

The IVP Cup 2022 stood out not just for its prize pool but for its symbolic importance. It represented a tentative yet hopeful step towards normalcy in the poker world, which had been heavily impacted by the global health crisis. With only one event per month, each tournament held a special place in the hearts of players and fans alike, offering a much-needed outlet for competition and camaraderie.

The tournament saw a diverse mix of players, from seasoned professionals eager to get back to the felt to new faces looking to make their mark in the poker scene. The atmosphere was electric, charged with a sense of renewal and excitement. It was more than just a poker tournament; it was a celebration of resilience and a testament to the enduring spirit of the poker community.

As we covered the event, we witnessed not only high-stakes action and strategic gameplay but also the deep connections and friendships that make the poker world so unique. The IVP Cup 2022 was a beacon of hope, showing that despite the challenges, the passion for poker remained strong.

Fast forward to today, and the IVP Cup has grown in both size and significance. As we now gather at the Voyager Poker Club in Cebu for the IVP Cup 2024, it’s inspiring to reflect on how far we’ve come since those early days of reopening. The modest beginnings of the IVP Cup have paved the way for a thriving series that continues to bring together the best players and create unforgettable moments.

Stay tuned as we continue our coverage of the IVP Cup 2024, starting with today’s 500k GTD event. The journey from 2022 to now has been remarkable, and we’re excited to see what new stories and champions will emerge from this year’s tournament.
