Hey, Poker Playas!

the first month of 2023 is almost over, and it was exhausting.

In the first month of 2023, 5 organizers started opening their salvo to show what they had in store for 2023.

5 poker events. 4 we have covered.

But then suddenly it stopped!

Some people already know why there are no tournament this week so we would have to cover that too.

We are thankful tho for the sudden stop but it does leave some questions.

Why there are no big tournaments for two weeks

In the Philippines, there is a rule that no 2 tournaments of 1 million and above can be held simultaneously. So organizers must book in advance.

The problem with this system is that their organizers can book even until next year their preferred schedule. The latecomers are then forced to find a vacant schedule. Hence some tournaments either have to be content with odd days for tournaments or have huge spaces of time in between.

Here now lies the problem. a schedule was booked a year ago(?). but due to some unforeseen circumstances. The organizer went to another country instead and yet the schedule can not be touched by other poke rooms in PH.

*Note: The organizers have announced their schedule so most players know there won’t be a tournament in the Philippines. However, other organizers have tried to get that schedule but PAGCOR insists it is still reserved for that organizer.

Of course, that organizer has to hold its tournament. but it did leave an ironic situation.

PAGCOR has kept the schedule free for that organizer, While that organizer will hold its event in another country protected that there would be no tournament will be held in the Philippines that would clash with their event. Players in the Philippines will go to that organizer’s tournament in another country or other tournaments in Asia.

The need to modify the scheduling

The rule has become archaic, as those rules were established years ago. in. a few more years it would not make sense at all.

New poker rooms would come out soon, with more poker rooms coming out. You can’t actually tell them, oh you can’t do any tournaments until next year.

Yes, even we believe that there must be some control on the schedule as it could kill the market. But we also must induce it to grow.

Another example is that we have to also protect the provincial tournaments.

Poker tournaments that coincide with festivals in the Philippines should be protected. because Festivals in the Philippines is a sure way to attract more people,

Like in the recently concluded Sinulog festival, not only attracts people to the Philippines and Cebu. It does showcase and supports tourism.

When a tournament ends. it ends. but unlike the festivals, you are giving them. chance to experience the festivals in the Philippines and some players would want to go back even if there is no tournament.

Supporting the poker tournament being held during the Festival period of provinces is a win-win situation for the country.

We believe from our sources that the Poker room in Davao can not have a big tournament during the “Araw ng Dabaw”

Hopefully things change.
