Metro Summer event – Pre-event – is it worth it?
Publish date: April 17, 2022

Hey, poker playas!

All eyes will be at the Metro Card Club this week! that is because the Metro Summer event after two years of hiatus is finally back,

The Metro Summer event is one of the Metro Quarter events.

This homegrown festival is on its fifth edition. It runs from April 20 to 25 with the buy-in of Php 5,500 (~US$ 106).

But before that there is the pre-event, There is a lot of question about this event. so here is a quick answer.

The Basic

Starting stack – 10k
buy-in – PHP 2750 (2,500 + 250)
Rebuy/Add-on tournament

Level Duration
20 Minutes Until level 9
15 Minutes After Level 9
20 Minutes Final table

Players can rebuy till level 9 (Player must have 10k or below to rebuy)
Add on – PHP 2,500 – During Break between levels 9 and 10. 15,000 Chips.
must have 1 chip to be able to add on

FIrst of all, it is a one-day event.

This is just a one-day event. it is like a warm-up event. ever since the poker rooms have opened their doors to the public again, poker rooms are still trying to find out the right combination for their tournaments.

Metro may have had the first Big event last year with the RVS cup. but they are still catching up to what the market wants. There has been no side event in the Metro events lately but this could be the start.

Updated tournament schedule

The starting stack is only 10k? but…

The biggest whisper is that the starting stack is only 10k. but people should not be concerned about this too much as there are 2 reasons that make this tournament worth playing still.

The biggest reason is still good is the structure.

The structure

People are usually only seeing half of the picture.

If we were to use the latest medium size tournament as a basis. take note they may be starting with a 15k starting stack but the blind starts at 100/100.

Effectively you only have 15 big blinds, to begin with. WHile the Metro structure is vastly different.

Level 1 – 25/50
Level 2 – 50/100
Level 3 – 75/150
Level 4 – 100/200

Level 5 – 100/200/200 Ante
Level 2 – 125/ 250/250 Ante
Level 3 – 150/300/300 Ante
Level 4 – 200/400/400 Ante

Level 9 – 250/500/500 Ante

Break and add on Period (15,000 chips)

Effectively you are starting with a good stack. As the blind starts from only 25-50. you are still effectively starting with 200 big blinds.

If you want to enter late in the tournament instead and opt for an add-on

10,000 (starting stack) + 15,000 (Add-on) = 25,5000

You will be entering with 50 big blinds.

It has a good chance to break the guarantee.

On a regular basis, tournaments are held in the Metro even without a guarantee. the number ranges from 50 to 100 players who are willing to play tournaments even without a guarantee.

It takes only 100 players to reach the guarantee.

Metro Manila has a good number of poker players. so reaching 100 players is actually quite feasible. plus adding the add-on. The question is not breaking the guarantee but can they double it?

The chance is pretty good it can double. so it is definitely a worthwhile tournament to play.

Will you be there?

Stay safe poker playas!
