Pokerstars Live at Okada Manila will greet the new year with a bang. although the full schedule is yet to be released. The main event is a 3 million PHP GTD with only a buy-in of only 3,500 PHP.
Already we have received reports that the champion purse will be at around 800,000+ PHP.
It is a very bold statement. Pokerstars Live Manila before the pandemic is dependent on foreign players. but the border could still be close when January hits as there is the looming threat of the new variant.
As of now PH has only 2 cases and has been isolated. But it could close the border early on.
However, the recent success of the Special tournament with a 6,000 PHP buy-in and only 1 million GTD will be a basis for the Okada Million’s success. It is very very possible.
It is a very bold statement, you would need an entry of more than 800 players to break even. or a thousand players to have a profit.
And they are doing it at the beginning of the new year. It definitely sends a message, “Hey, we are here. and we are definitely going to set the standard”
Change, the key word in 2022.
There are a total of 5 poker rooms in Manila, there is a rumor that the GG poker room will re-open on January 7, 2022.
For now, most poker rooms have decided to make any movement or tournaments to 2022. But one begins to wonder why?
With Pokerstars Live Manila starting with a big bang, a lot of focus will be on their event. If GG Poker is going to open on January 7, 2022. The focus will still be on Pokerstars.
Whether Pokerstars makes the guarantee or not. Even a no overlay could give a morale boost to stars to hold more events. And they can spend.
Meanwhile, small poker rooms trying to hold small events will only get the crumbs.
back then, before the pandemic, Pokerstars could hold a 500,000 PHP GTD one-day tournament with no overlay.
And we know which tournament players would choose.
But then again this is up to the poker rooms.
