Hey, poker players!
Although die-hard poker players love would love for poker to be back to the way it was before. It will not be easy and it will take time.
We have to be more realistic in how we view things.
There are a lot of factors that could affect so it cant happen overnight.
It could be better or it could be worst. the future is still unwritten.
First off, we never said it would be bad. The Philippines is after all legally the best place to play poker. You can get a legal license to hold either tournament or cash game without the fear of being raided.
There is no need to hide the cash game into sit-and-go where you can win prizes with cash value. it is what it is.
Poker has also been part of the Philippines for more than 10 years. we have good dealers and good floors.
We also have a lot of players.
The Philippines does have the edge. but can it use it?
The long lockdown
However, everything was put to a halt when the pandemic happened. for months poker rooms have not been allowed to operate. it was a long winter.
And the winter is not over.

And the winter is not over.
A national election will happen next year. Although we try and avoid writing about politics on our page. There is an actual similarity to the current industry.
Too many politicians not enough leaders.
The old heroes are gone
It was only a few years ago where Filipino poker players finally won a WSOP bracelet. But then everything was silent.
Due to the lockdown. what could have been a growth was stopped. Every poker players know to continue to earn from poker you just need to go outside the Philippines. because for now, The Philippines has no tournament.
Some poker players like Julius Lubas and Mike Takayama understood that it was the only way to go. If you wish to pursue a poker career. Las Vegas is the only place to be.
In Asia, both South Korea and Taiwan have been holding live tournaments.
With the recent win of Carlos chang in the WSOP. it could help boost the local market of Taiwan. With both having almost the same value of money. A Taiwanese player could opt to stay put in Taiwan and play rather than travel to PH.
It will not be easy.
Online Mirco tournaments – the cash grab tourneys that make not be that good.
Most players will always consider micro tournaments as crap. They do have a point. the biggest tourney in the world that has no guarantee still attracts players from all around the world(WSOP).
And WSOP even made each level longer a few years back making each level 2 hours.
And yet the opposite is what online is pushing. tournaments are a fast pace. it all about the money. be ready to re-buy. you win good, you lose and don’t rebuy, goodbye and next. There are tournaments on the live scene that pushes to adopt this method.
There is of course science as to why they want to do it this way. by equaling the luck and skill set. anybody can win. Theoretically, more people might join.
But a lot of poker players don’t play the game of luck when they play poker. That is why the current players of the live scene are actual poker players more.
Because let us just be honest, if luck is the major factor now. any poker tournament or even cash game needs you to invest time. To outsmart the enemy at the game. not to out luck them. And if it’s just luck. online cockfighting is faster and easier.
How many poker players shifted to cockfighting?
The future is still unwritten
Let us be honest, if daily tournaments are allowed once again. which poker room would you go to?
It will definitely be the Metrocard club. Because they will have enough players to start the game, which is number 1. you won’t take a risk going to a poker room whose requirement will put a minimum before the tourney start. If they do not meet the minimum. they will cancel it. It does not matter if more players are coming. not enough before the game start. cancel. You took your time to believe in them. who cares? A total waste of time.
WIll that change? who knows? We still hope organizers changes and help grow poker once again. but maybe it won’t.
stay safe poker playas!
