Hey, poker players!
Quite recently, Doug Polk interviewed Garrett Adelstein, a cash game specialist, on topics like live cash games.
There were a lot of topics that were quite interesting in the podcast. but are the cash game dying?
No.
On the effect of covid.
The pandemic did affect the poker scene. there was a lot of keypoint during the podcast where both admitted that they prefer live games over online games.
A lot of people were affected by the pandemic in terms of income. Hence cash game may have taken a few swings.
But they were optimistic that live games will come back because nothing beat the feeling of being on the felt.
Live versus onine
Both did admit they prefer live games over online games. there is just that feeling when you sit down on a felt.
With online, you have to make sure you are not being ganged upon, that your money is safe that if you win you can withdraw.
Although there are many good tournaments online. There is just that big difference between being there.

How Metro Manila poker scene is doing.
It is doing good. although some rooms might feel the lack of players. but that is because other players are in another room.
Overall. the old players might not be active on the live scene anymore. but there is an influx of new players that are playing more often.
The truth is more and more new players are coming in. but if there is anyone to blame for the dying of the cash game. it is actually the room themselves that push for it.
Operators and managers don’t play poker.
A lot of times whether you are a club owner or a poker operator or even a poker player. The problem is that they do not understand poker per se.
It is not that it is poker alone that has this problem. it usually is in every other industry.
Putting yourself in the right shoe
Most owners do not understand the heart of poker players. although it had not stopped people from claiming they know.
Let say you are a poker player and you don’t know anything about Magic the gathering. If we were to give you a beta black lotus. since you do not know the game. although it is valuable. you could not appreciate it.
Here’s the thing with poker. there are many types of poker players. If you ask a tournament player, then of course the answer will likely be a bigger guarantee. or cash game of course a higher rake back.
But for the industry to get better. it is the recreational players that you should understand.
Poker players and organizers themselves alienate the fishes.
Picture this, your on a table a player kept calling with nothing or something or just basically being a bad player. he beats a pro. and then the pro started shouting to the guy that he is stupid and doesn’t know how to play poker.
This is probably a thing that most players have experience on the table.
let say one room has a big bad beat jackpot. you came into the room around 6 PM. There are 3 tables in the room, two 25/50 and one 50/100. there are 20 on the waiting list of 25-50. 2 players on 50-100.
How long before you can sit?
Minimum 3 hours. We all know this, the room will force you to play 50-100 or wait for hours.
It is time to change how we approach things.
As the world slowly opens. we hope soon that things get better.
Cash game not dying. it is just taking a break.
