We are sure you have heard or seen something about the Squid game. Whether it is the huge doll standing in Robinson Ortigas or the invitation card or the sugar cookie.
It is one hot stuff.
But what is it?
Squid Game
Squid Game (Korean: 오징어게임; RR: Ojingeo Geim) is a South Korean survival drama streaming television series written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The nine-episode series, starring Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo and Wi Ha-joon, tells the story of a group of people who risk their lives in a mysterious survival game with a 45.6 billion (US$38.7 million) prize. It was released worldwide on September 17, 2021, by Netflix.

Four hundred and fifty-six people, who have all struggled financially in life, are invited to play a mysterious survival competition. Competing in a series of traditional children’s games but with deadly twists, they put their lives at risk to compete for a ₩45.6 billion (US$38.5 million) prize.
There were many different children’s games in the show and some people carried it to the next level. here are some.
The Squid game doll
The squid game doll is basically the first game in the series. it is basically a classic game where players must run to the doll (or the person doing the countdown) when turns around. people should stop moving.
A similar doll has been placed in Robinson’s galleria that tells you to stop from crossing or move.
The Squid game cookie
It is basically a sugar honeycomb snack where in the series the shapes are simpler like a circle or the most complicated one was the umbrella.
players have to use a toothpick to try and remove the outer space while maintaining the inner shape.
Lessons (contain spoilers but will try to minimize)
A lot of people are now spreading how many lessons you can learn from the series. A lot of it is centered on the people who were desperate enough that why they are willing to risk their lives.
From don’t gamble or you might end up desperate. be careful who you trust and stuff. (Share your favorite lesson)
Our favorite lesson was when the creator of the game gave people a chance to quit the game and save their own lives. Only for some people to come back and play. We do understand that for some people when they are desperate. They would rather risk it. The game could be the only hope for their lives enough to risk it all.
Of course, the series did push the message further by having the eventual winner instead of spending the amount he won. It took a year and only talking to the creator made him change his mind. And the winner started to change his life and he gave much of it away.
If we were to only focus on the lessons alone. an article would not be enough. maybe we could write more of the lessons someday.
One of side story.
Although the story did try to leave a good message. One of the side stories deals about past winners although he won came back and became part of the organizer.
Some people do get chances. but sometimes it is not about the chance they get. but what they choose to do with it. On one side you have the main character where he chose humanity. on the side story if was a person who even when he won has no regrets. but that is real life for you.
Winning a chance is not about only winning. Sometimes it is what you do about it.
Squid game and poker.
Now that squid game is trending. Any poker site could just ride this trend and create a series of games that captures the essence of the game. of course minus the violence and stuff.
But the way the game was set out had its own reasons.
The truth is making the journey memorable makes the game better. Even the pandemic is a reflection of this. We could always choose to do something better or we can just lazily do something just to show we have done something.
