Online poker has been taken serious hits. Live poker is still limited due to the pandemic. New online sites popping up. and other online competitions.

This week we would look into how and why it happens and what it means for the future.

Online Cockfighting.

Cockfighting or “Sabong” has a long history in the Philippines. It is a popular pastime in the Philippines that was already flourishing in the pre-colonial Philippines, as recorded by Antonio Pigafetta, the Italian diarist aboard Ferdinand Magellan’s 1521 expedition.

The Lockdown and the availability of betting online was actually a perfect combination that helped it boom.

People just love to see fights that even if it was bird fighting. People were quick to grab on it.

But like all gambling ventures, it really depends on your luck to win and the odds will always be in favor of the house.

Axie

Axie Infinity is a game you can play on Android phones, iPhones, and the PC. Its core gameplay draws heavily from Pokémon: you have a team of 3 creatures called Axies with various skills, which you battle with, against either computer-controlled opponents or other real-life players.

Axie Infinity incorporates non-fungible tokens or NFTs into the formula. An NFT, simply put, is a certification that a certain digital asset is the lone, original copy. 

Players can cash out the tokens they earn on a regular basis. There are 2 types of token in the game: Small Love Potion (SLP) and Axie Infinity Shard (AXS). It’s the SLP that the players often earn, and cash out. The AXS is a proposed governance token which will, when it is implemented, allow owners to have a say in how the game is being developed. 

Why its beating online poker.

There are actually a lot of reasons a lot of it is the natural way of how things happened. here are some. 

• it is new, like in the case of Axie, it is a fad that people wanted to try. 
• Money is faster.
• As of now, with Axie if you farm it correctly, you can actually earn while in poker you might end up in the bubble.

The future.

Will poker die? nope. Poker will always be poker. It actually has the same basic reason why sabong never died. because it has a long root already in the Philippines.

Axie actually may disappear faster than poker. Axie right now depends on two factors. the demand for the game pushes the game economy higher, But less demand or oversupply can also destroy it.

Play to earn is not a new concept. There was lineage II where there are people farming for materials more than 10 years ago. World of warcraft levelers who level characters and sell their characters.

Actually. Axie and Diablo 3 almost were similar. Diablo had an in-game market. But if more farmers come in. Prices would go down.

Then there is the technology itself. soon a better game with a better graphic will come out.

Even if it was a fad. it does not directly mean they will come back to poker.
