Hey, poker playas!
The world is changing rapidly, whether it would be politics or even poker. the change is there.
Maybe it’s good and maybe it bad, sometimes it is up to the people to figure out.
Sometimes it the old being challenge by the new.
But without realizing those changes. We could be swept by it. we may end up feeling lost.
Here are some of the changes happening and how to understand them.
Live poker
Live poker has definitely changed due to the pandemic. This is not actually a local thing but the world. Health Security measures are being challenged.
WSOP vaccine rule.
Sometimes drastic moves have to be undertaken to protect the players, but those rules could be a hot place to be in. This year WSOP will have a vaccine rule. players must present proof of vaccination. Although they have eased the measurement a little by accepting any WHO-approved vaccines. It is still an issue that is being challenged.
Barriers or none?
On the local side. We actually have a poker room that allowed no barrier and underground rooms that has no rules. although there are poker rooms in Manila that have barriers and allows more players to play.
We personally actually appreciate this as the owners have spent money just so those barriers are erected for the safety of the players.
But some have not even put in any effort at all.
Online poker
As we have actively coordinated with online sites, We are privy to some inside information. We can understand the other side of the online felt.
Free roll or free entry?
There is a big difference between freeroll and free entry. Although the description of a freeroll is actually a tournament with free entry.
Although the usual street standard is that freerolls are free entries with no rebuy. It is just a commonly accepted term.
Why did we bring this up?
There is a huge difference between a freezeout and a re-buy tournament. The gameplay is just different.
But ironically, here is the sad truth. Poker companies must make up their losses. With Rakeback and different promotions. the spread is too thin to fund completely free tournaments. Even big online tournaments have pushed this concept.
In order to make tournaments have a good number of players. They must increase the guarantee and lower the buy-ins. but in order to have to induce re-buys to make up for the losses. structure and speed must be the sacrifice.
It is just how things are.
it is good or bad?
The answer is actually very complex. On one hand, it is good. As we are in a pandemic. A lot of people have no stable income. So getting new players in is good.
But on one side especially in the long run. Whether you are an old or a new player. there are some factors that could not be good.
New players are exposed to a fast pace tournament that luck could play a major key.
Old players that are good may not survive as new players who have funds can easily have an advantage.
Here are some facts. A lot of old players are now grinding Axie as a preferred game.
The question is not really is it good or bad. the question is what is next.
The old ways versus the new.
It is actually a competition between the old and the new. On one side you have people wanting to go back to the old ways. On the other, you have people pushing that this is the new thing.
This is how things are now!
Is it?
Not really, this is how things are because people in power are pushing that this is how things should be. Of course, there are better ways where you can take the wisdom of the old and the fast-paced nature of the game now and come to a middle ground.
But it is also not easy either.
There is no easy solution.
The truth is, the number 1 poker site in the world is still PokerStars. GG Poker is number 2 but those who have been monitoring them will tell you how much they have to change to become number 2.
If you are feeling lost. take the wisdom of the old. they may have a lot to teach. But also understand how to adapt to the new.
How?
Stay tuned!
