The biggest mistake poker people make
Publish date: August 17, 2021

Hey, poker playas!

What do you think is the biggest mistake poker people make? Yes, poker people as we have decided to include not only players but to include organizers as well.

There is one mistake that people are often making which really hurts them in the long run.

No matter how seasoned you are.

The mistake we are talking about has cost a lot of players bankroll.

Let us give you a clue.

As a poker player

Often times we have been asked by players if they have played the hand correctly. Let say you lost a hand, you go to someone and ask them their opinion on the hand you just played.

How do you ask the question?

Does it not start with your hand and the position you have on the table and next comes the raise you had.

Already, this is where the mistake begins.

Not adapting correctly when the hand is right in front of you

A lot of poker people view the game from their own perspective. Yes, books are quite effective to a certain degree but there is a saying.

If you have been playing on a table for more than 5 minutes and you still don’t know who is the idiot on the table. then the idiot is you.

A lot of people tend to play the game like a robot. okay, I have AK under the gun. on the flop, I would bet x amount. on the turn, I would shove.

There is one major factor you should consider especially when the flop hits. Who is your opponent?

Here is an example.

At the last Pokerista tournament, kyle tried to bluff his way on the river. in reality, his move was solid all the way. But his opponent was a new player.

Another example is normally the smallest blind of a poker room is the most difficult game to play.

When a player makes a raise. normally it is to eliminate other opponents on the table that would play trash hands. the book suggests you should raise at least 3 times the blinds.

but if you are playing the lowest blinds. this may not be ideal.

It could also be true when a lot of your opponent is aggressive on the table. we have seen a tournament where at the beginning of the event the players were raising big on the table.

following the usual standard may not be good.

the game is definitely defined by your opponent. as such players must adapt to the scenario.

Follow the book but adapt to the game

Poker books do have some wisdom into what they wrote. but without understanding the essence. it would be difficult.

For example when you have a pocket ace in your hand. definitely, the game should be played differently when your opponent is a pro and when your opponent is a fish.

Even poker organizers make those mistakes.

A lot of poker organizers do make such a mistake. Poker sites and poker clubs as well.

It assumes that because they think this is what poker player wants. People will just jump right in. If such was the case then everybody would have succeeded.

Currently, right now the market is a tough business. You have multiple clubs offering freerolls on a daily basis.

So if you believe just making a freeroll is enough to attract players. the answer is no. but then people would start making new rules. it is probably not worth your time.

One such example is a poker site we have a place on the blacklist. After we have looked into their operations. We know for certain that any deals with them will only resort to bad faith.

Quite recently, they advertise they are doing freerolls. but is now putting conditions on the winner to be able to withdraw their winnings. although this is quite common and reasonable.

However, putting those conditions after players have won is not worth the effort. As they can put more conditions later on when players win.

It is a new world and a new game.

A lot of people tend to look for shortcuts, a quick and easy formula to be able to get a lot of players at once.

But no such things. In the end, you have to build things from scratch. the same with poker players. You have to understand your opponent.

Stay safe poker playas!
