A matter of perspective – half empty or half full
Publish date: May 12, 2021

This is a very old psychological question. what if a glass is half-filled. do you think it is half empty or half full?

It is supposedly a question that would categorize you as either a pessimist or an optimist.

The question is, what do you think?

Are you a pessimist or an optimist?

Pessimist VS optimist

A pessimist is the one that sees the negative in life, while the optimist sees the positive.

But as the world grew complex. There is now fake optimism and positive pessimism. What does it matter and how it relates to poker and poker playas?

A poker example

What if you played only hold-em for your whole poker life. You have won multiple awards and big tournaments. Suddenly you jump into an Omaha tournament. You learn the basics as you sat down. but you only got into the money.

Would you consider that a win or a loss?

Hold-em and Omaha

Although some of the basic fundamentals on how to play Holdem, Omaha is a totally different game.

Hold em you have two cards while in Omaha you have four.

The main twist in it is that in Omaha you have to use two cards.

A perfect example is that a board with 4 hearts. In hold-em, you need a single heart in your hand to complete a strait. While in Omaha, even tho you have four cards. you need two hearts to complete a flush. You must use two cards.

There are other things that make Hold-em the same as Omaha. but the difference makes it a totally different game.

False postivity

Some players and winners of the tournament would come in believing that they could win the game easily. Just by being champions in hold-em.

Because he lost suddenly he claims that Omaha is not poker. it is about being lucky.

But the example is not strict to that scenario, how many times have you heard a poker player who lost would claim poker is about having deeper pockets, or online there are too many bots.

The truth is some people pretend to be an optimist but in reality. They twist the story to suit their needs.

Positive negativity.

From a different angle, you can also be happy with the result as you still have so many to learn. But you are unsatisfied with the result and promise yourself to learn more.

Yes, you are not happy with the result and other players might think you a negative person. but if you are that person who would do more and study more to improve your game.

Then it is a better way to do things. Be not contented on small achievements, but strive hard to achieve bigger things.

Be a positive pessimist

From a different angle, you can also be happy with the result as you still have so many to learn. But you are unsatisfied with the result and promise yourself to learn more.

Yes, you are not happy with the result and other players might think you a negative person. but if you are that person who would do more and study more to improve your game.

Then it is a better way to do things. Be not contented on small achievements, but strive hard to achieve bigger things.

Applying it to everyday life.

Even if the poker example. the reality is that the person even if he believes Omaha is about luck. One day he would still play it again.

Most people don’t accept such a reality.

If you tried something new. go for it. if you fail just make certain you learned from your failures and not blame people for it.

Look back and understand how much effort did you put In, All failures come with a lesson. if you did not learn anything then you did not try at all.
