Texas Hold-em – a basic guide to play the game
Publish date: April 22, 2021

Interested in playing poker? Scared of being made fun of on the table?

No worries as we will try to give you all the information you need to play Texas hold-em,

Texas hold-em Texas hold ’em (also known as Texas Holdemhold ’em, and Holdem) is one of the most popular variants of the card game of poker.

Although little is known about the invention of Texas hold ’em, the Texas Legislature officially recognizes Robstown, Texas, as the game’s birthplace, dating it to the early 1900s.

Hand ranking

Before we go to the actual game, we need to first understand hand ranking in poker.

Poker is played on the familiar hand ranking that most poker variants follow.

Poker is about having the best 5 cards from any combination.

Basic

Now that you know about the combination, the next step is the simple mechanic.

Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt face down to each player,

Everyone gets two cards! but how can you make a 5 card combination with only 2 cards?

The next step is that there will be 5 community cards spread on the table. It will be dealt with in stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards (“the flop”), later an additional single card (“the turn” or “fourth street”), and a final card (“the river” or “fifth street”).

All players can use the community card. Every player is now battling which hand has the best combination out of the 7 cards combination.

Button, small blind, and the big blind.

The button is the guide for where the dealer will deal first. The player after the button, known also as the small blind is the player the will receive the first card on every shuffle.

The button will actually go around so every player will be the button. There is a significant importance to why the button must keep going around. The player who has the button will take action last thus has advantage against the other players.

The small blind is the player after the button and normally must put an initial bet. The small blind must also act first after the community cards are spread(flop, turn, and river)

The big blind is the player after the small blind and must also put an initial bet but double the small blind.

After finishing a hand, the button moves so does the big blind and small blind.

Additional info

There are times the dealer will ask you if you want to buy the button. what happens is that you came in on the position of the small blind and you can start playing already but you must put the small blind and the big blind value.

Or you have to wait until the button passes your position.

You are actually buying the position. not the button. so do not take home the button or you will be reprimanded.

Check, call, raise, fold, or All-in?

Check is that you have a bet (in case your the big blind) and nobody raises the bet nor do you have a plan to raise the pot. or if after the community cards are spread and nobody has made any bet. you can check and the action goes to the next player.

To call is when there is a bet and you want to continue to fight. To call is matching the highest bet of that given turn.

To raise is when there is an initial bet and you want to increase the bet that other players must call in order to continue to play. if there is no initial bet like on the flop, turn, or river. it is basically called “bet”

To fold means to surrender your hand as you have no wish to put in any more chips and will no longer play that hand.

To all-in means to bet or raise all the chips that you have on that hand.

Additional info

When you go all-in, you can only win or lose the number of chips you have on the table for that hand. if you have more than your opponent chips. He is only liable to pay only all the chips on the table.

That concludes the basic guide to play the game. we would write more about the other important stuff about the game soon.
