Poker tips from the Pros – Dave Spade
Publish date: February 27, 2021

Dave Spade, currently the number 3 in the GPI PH ranking. A pioneer in the streaming of poker games in Manila.

Dave has been a regular in winning events hence the number 3 spots in the GPI ranking.

The only thing missing is that one big win. but he was getting there. then the pandemic hit.

Evolving

Even before the pandemic, he was becoming better.

He was actually doing better on the main event. On some of the last big events in Manila before the lockdown. He was able to finished 4th in the WPT Manila main event. of course, he also bagged one of the side events along the way.

But the lockdown stopped his live poker progress.

Once again evolving, he was streaming better and was doing better on online events as well.

He also started streaming other mobile games in order to attract new crowds.

He was evolving.

So it was time to ask him for some tips to new players out there.

Tips from pros- Dave Spade.

1. Know your skill level. Why? Because you don’t want to play on the highest level even if u have a good bankroll. You’ll end up broke. How do you calibrate your skill level? By trying out different platforms. Start on local then go global.

2. Improve your game. If you don’t improve your game, other players will. Even fishes improve their game by just playing with pros and not studying the game. Sooner or later they will catch up if you just chill. Play but study more.

3. No sad stories. Common traits of a poker player are to rant, but does it do anything good? Does it make u a better player? No. Just take notes of your mistakes then try to ask top players what would they do on that particular spot. But never send a bad beat hand. Keep it positive. Negative thoughts affect our decision-making. Take it like a pro.

4. Know the basics. You will not improve if you don’t know where to start. If you started as a donkey player and your vpip is like 70%+, you are probably a losing player that keeps denying the fact that you will never win. It is not too late to know what is the right starting hands-on whatever position you are playing. Knowledge is power, try using google.

5. Discipline is the key. Hard work beats talent 99% of the time so if you a limited bankroll, Grind more but only play on what you can afford to lose. Start small if you are still studying the game or trying to improve. You cannot win on high stakes if you can’t beat small stakes that is a fact.
