Cebu may not have the same poker action as they have in Manila. But it does not mean that there are no great players there.
The truth is there have been players from Cebu who have slowly made a name for themselves and have climb steadily the GPI ranks.
For today we welcome the Shoti (little brother in Hokkien) from Cebu. Alexis Lim.

Alexis Lim has already a few trophies under his belt. A champion of the Superseries and streamer.
He has been balancing his life with poker and family business. A quiet guy but definitely a very nice guy.
The Philippines was placed under lockdown last year and today there are rumors that Cebu could be placed in a strict lockdown again. But Shoti has been adapting and carrying his game to the next level.
He has been playing online when times permit it. He has confirmed he would play the 20 million PHP GTD of the U series of poker by Upoker.

1st. Play with passion. Do what makes you happy. By doing that everything will follow. Sakin nung una ako nag laro, I really fell in love with the game kaya I persevere to learn and focus on the do’s and dont’s in order for me to win.
2nd Experience is the best teacher. Learning from your mistakes and not doing them again is the best thing you could do. Any kind of game kahit ano pa yan, if you will learn from the mistakes and correct them then you will be a better player.
3rd Keeping a cool head. Normal lang satin yung mag reklamo and ma tilt pag na badbeat, pero malaking pagkakamali sa poker ang ma tilt, na wawala ka sa tamang decision. Isipin mo nalang nakaka badbeat ka rin. Usually kasi mga badbeats lang naaalala natin nakakalimutan na yung mga swerteng dumating. Accept the results. It is all part of the game.

4th Adjusting to every situation. Keep in mind the goal of the game is to win. You really need to observe your opponents on how they play and then think about how to win with not depending on pure luck. So basically my principles of the game are “let them pay the nuts, and let your bluffs be successful”. As i say in bisaya, pabayri imong nuts, palutsa imo mga bluffs. Haha
5th Thank the Man Above. All we need is a little prayer of thanking him for all the blessings we receive. Be thankful for the gift of life. Being alive and able to play the game we love is a blessing from him. But never forget you should put in the work in order for you to succeed.
