At a young age, Gerardo Lubas already is living a life that other people can only dream of.
He has played at the WSOP main event and has cashed in a lot of good events at a young age.
The best is yet to come as they say.
Currently at number 8 on the GPI Philippines poker index. His last good cashed was only last year by entering the final table of the Red Dragon.
But it was not yet his time hence he was not able to bag the event. However, he was able to cash close to 3 million pesos.
For today we ask him what can he advise to people who wants to be a poker player.

Can you give us some advice for people who want to play poker?
5 tips? Sa totoo lng personally wala ako mai-share sainyo about jan na talagang mismong galing saakin dahil sa lahat ng nalalaman ko sa loob ng poker is naituro lang sakin ng tatay ko. Magaling sya teacher kaya mahal na mahal ko sya. Eto mga tinuro nya sa akin.
(Tips? The truth is I cant personally share anything about my own tips coming from me because all of the things I know about poker is taught by my dad. He is a great teacher that is why i Love him. Here is what he taught me.

1st. Always be thankful to God. Sa kahit anong resulta na dadating sa mga games mo, mapacashgame man yan or tournament lagi ka wag makakalimot magpasalamat sa taas dahil nabibigyan ka ng chance makalaro at nabubuhay ka sa mundo. Walang malas na salita para sakin as long as buhay ka.
( First, always be thankful to God. In any result that came out of your game. Whether it’s a cash game or a tournament. never forget to thank the lord above because you’re given a chance to play and you are alive. There is no bad luck for me as long as your alive.)

Disiplina sa loob at sa labas ng lamesa. Kung pano mo dadalhin ang emotion mo. Poker is a mind game. Kumbaga kung ano ung tinatakbo ng isip mo is yun ung magdidikta ng results ng laro mo. Kaya importanteng importante na mayroon kang disiplina sa katawan at pagiisip mo. For example tilted ka sa isang player. Wag mo isama yun sa game mo dahil dun ka malulubog. Kinakain kana ng ego mo para talunin yung player na hindi mo namamalayan na nauubos na yung chips mo. Pag tilted ka, Give yourself a break. A 1 button round walk will do.
(Discipline whether your in or out of the table. how you control your emotions. Poker is a mind game. it means to say whatever your mind is thinking is the one that would dictate the outcome of the game. For example. you are on tilt because of a player. Dont bring it to your game because that is where you would lose. Your ego is eating you to take revenge against that player and you did not notice your chips are slowly being eaten. Giver yourself a break. A 1 button round walk will do.

Continue to study the game. Aralin mo mabuti yung laro. Best teacher mo in poker is yung experience mo kada hand. Pag may mga crucial hands kang nalaro at natalo ka magandang himay-himayin mo yun hanggat maisip mo yung tamang gagawin mo sa susunod ng hindi mo na maulit yung pagkakamali mo na yun. Wag titigil magaral.
(Continue to study the game, study hard about the game. Your best teacher in poker is your experience every hand. If your played a crucial hand, Whether you win or lose. Disect it carefully until you know what will be the right move on the next same situation and you will no longer commit the same mistake. Never stop learning.)

Bankroll management. Ang turo sakin dati ng father ko is kada cash game na mag-up ako. Ang pwede ko lang gastusin dun sa naipanalo ko nung araw ng grind ko is yung 10% ng kada winnings ko so the rest goes to my bankroll and savings. Alamin mo kung saan blinds or stakes nagfifit-in ung bankroll mo. Pag mas komportable ka sa game. Dun ka maglaro then tska ka dadami. Pag dami mo tska ka pwde umakyat ng stakes na lalaruan.
(Bankroll management, My dad taught me that every cash game that I ended up winning. What I can only spend is 10% of my winning and the rest must go to my banroll or saving. Know the blinds or stakes that fits your bankroll. The more comfortable you are on that game. that is where you can play and grow. When you grown enough that is the only time you can increase your stakes or the blinds you play)

Always giveback. Kami pag may big tournaments kami napapanalunan ng father ko. Hindi namin nakakalimutan mag-giveback sa mga mas nangangailangan. Dahil naniniwala ang pamilya namin na pag maluwag ka sa pagtulong saiyong kapwa ay dun ka lalo ibe-bless ng panginoon at ng mahal na Mama Mary.
