At the start of 2021, we featured players that we would want to see once again play on the live felt. But where are they and what have they been doing?
This week, we have tried to reach out to them to ask them more about what kept them busy during the pandemic.
Did they just stay at home? did they forget about poker? Do they play on other grounds? let us find out.
Joven Huerto
Joven Huerto is currently Number 12 on the Global poker index. A gentleman on the felt that is idolized by many local players. One of the reasons is he is one of the few that dresses nicely every time whenever he plays on any poker event. He is the calm elder brother to a lot of local poker players.
Retired from his old company after 21 years of hard work. At first, he got depressed when the company refuses to give him his separation pay. He was first depressed a tried to play poker to relieve his stress.
2018 was the year where he finally was able to get out of depression and started winning in poker.
He was part of Metro team pro and was doing good until the pandemic struck.

The pandemic
We asked Joven Huerto what he was doing during the pandemic.
During pandemic, nasa bahay lang talaga ako and my Family, tapos lumalabas lang ako once a month para lang Mag grocery lang mag isa, which is diko ginagawa before . Kaya naman ako lang mag-isa napag-usapn na namin ng Wife ko na ako ang lalabas para kahit ako lang ma expose during those days na talaga lockdown. Saka sumusunod rin kami sa Protocol na 1 person per Quarantine pass. Imagine nag gogrocery ako na stock na pang isang buwan. Hirap kaya nun imagine mag isa ka lang minsan dalawang push cart ang ipipila mo sa Cashier
On his plans on the new normal
Ngayun naglalabas na ako kahit papano, I go biking tapos yung isa kong friend pinu push nya ako mag Golf he even sponsor me a Golf set and kinuha nya ako ng Coach to teach me sagot nya lahat yun meron pa ako mga 5 sessions para matapos yung basic training para daw mawala stress ko. tapos minsan nagpupunta ako ng small gathering pero pili lang sa mga close friend pa lang. one of these days siguro dadalaw ako ng Metro missed ko na yun eh tutal balita ko so far ok naman ang pagsunod nila sa healthy protocol.

On poker during the Lockdown, today, and future plans.
During that time never ako naglaro ng mga Big Tournaments Online like Pokerstars, Poker Bros, GG Poker and APT Online. Kasi katwiran ko yung natitira kong savings diko na para ipagsapalaran. Kasi mahirap na just in case of emergency during lockdown kahit papano may mahuhugot ka. Ang pinagtyatyagaan ko is yung mgaTournaments ng PPPoker as low as 100 buy-ins up to 1,000 buy-in, yun lang ang budget ko. Kahit papano nanalo naman. Nakaka kuha ng pang grocery and pambayad bills.
Speaking of tournaments Upoker has an ongoing series. The U Series of Poker. do you plan to join it?
I will check their schedule of their events if somebody back me up I will play. Like I said small buy-ins lang ang mga nilalaro ko sa ngayun. Alam mo naman I resigned at my Worked last July 2018 as a Manager ng isang Financing Company sa Ortigas 21 yrs di ako duon. Kaya since the walang pumapasok na Daily income puro palabas. Pasalamat na nga lang medyo maganda naging runs ko sa mga Tournaments for the past years kahit stakes nga lang.
Do you have any messages for the poker players?
Alam ko marami sa atin ang lubhang naapektuhan ng Pandemyang ito. Be positive lang, naniniwala ako na magiging normal ang lahat. Huwag tayong makalimot na tumawag sa itaas.
