GPI PH#8 and #9 are not far behind.
Publish date: January 23, 2021

Before coronavirus, Saturday was one of the busiest days in most poker rooms. It usually was the day where big tournaments or main events are held.

Due to pandemic, those nights were shut down.

But life is slowly coming back. Tonight, there are 3 – 25/50 PHP tables, 6 – 50/100 PHP table, and 1- 100/200/500 PHP table running.

The live poker scene is slowly coming back. We hope tournaments come back soon.

And with it the race to be GPI PH #1 begins.

Gerardo Lubas and Jason Ambata

GPI Index number 8 – Gerardo Lubas and Number 9 – Jason Ambata are not that far behind in the quest to be GPI Number 1 in PH.

We have featured them various times as they are very cooperative with spending time to help us out.

We helped organize “The Duel” last December and it gave us a glimpse into their different playstyle.

The two players are definitely great players, but they have yet to win that one big great event. Can they do it this 2021?

GPI Number 8 – Gerardo Lubas

Gerardo Lubas remains active in the live scene but very cautious. He has been seen playing at Pokerstars Live Manila in Okada.

During the match, it was clear Gerardo was the more aggressive of the match. Poker after all is a game where you play to win.

Although, he was behind after a few rounds. he does not mind taking the risk if he believes he is ahead.

The highlight of the duel would probably be the solid defense he did when he took the lead.

Although we do not know when poker will be once again normal.

Playing defense when needed, shifting to aggressive when it’s called for. We hope to see him in action on the live felt again soon.

GPI Number 9 – Jason Ambata

From game and lifestyle. These two are nothing alike. Jason Ambata was staying at home playing it safe and played mostly online.

In “The Duel”, Jason early on was a passive player. Not bad considering he did catch some major bluff.

He may be passive, but bluff him and he will catch you.

When he was able to get a comfortable lead, he started pounding on it slowly.

Jason Ambata is like an old diesel engine car. You have to heat it for a while until it starts to rev up. Cruising slowly until he would push the boost.

He stayed mostly at home, grinding online and winning weekly. Whether it be a tournament or cash game. He has become a true grinder.

Playing safe and staying at home. We do wish to see him soon live on the felt.

Stay safe poker players
