Will Tournaments return very soon?

Manila’s live poker scene suffered due to the pandemic. A lockdown ordered on March 15, 2020, that extended for months has put a lot of our live poker tournament players on the freezer.

Mike Takayama retain the number spot for the overall GPI. but for 2020, but it was Reggie Bautista that took the number 1.

But where is the rest of the top 9 players? Today we would feature the other players.

Lester Edoc

As of January 22, 2021

GPI PH OVERALL – Number 7
GPI PH 2020 – Number 65

Lester Edoc may not have played as heavy as the years before. but his one win before the lockdown was great.

Winning the first Red Dragon Super High-roller event net him more than 5 million PHP.

Lester Edoc is very calculative in his play. show him weakness and he will take advantage of it without a doubt.

We hear he was busy on his farm preferring a simple life and had played a few in WSOP online. Lester Edoc has definitely not reached his prime in his poker career. Once Live Poker opens again. We hope to see him on the felt.

Chris Mateo

As of January 22, 2021

GPI PH OVERALL – Number 6
GPI PH 2020 – Number 9

If you ever visit a poker room in Manila after the pandemic. ask who the big time is and most people know Chris as big time.

Bigtime play is very aggressive. if he thinks you are weak. he will pound on you like there is no tomorrow.

His ultra-aggressive style did him well as he is also APT Manila champion.

We heard no news about what he was doing during the pandemic. but definitely it had to be BIG.

Richard Marquez

As of January 22, 2021

GPI PH OVERALL – Number 5
GPI PH 2020 – Number 4

Richard “Hotsauce” Marquez, one of the most easily recognizable poker players in Manila.

He is very active in tournaments hence his reputation has grown.

Whether live or online. The hot sauce is one of those players that would try to play it all and win no matter what the cost.

Can they become number 1 in 2021?

2021 has just begun and poker rooms are re-opening slowly. it will only be a matter of time before things try to get back to normal. but until then……

Stay safe poker playas!
