Element Partners LLC acquires WPT

WPT announced via a Tuesday morning press release the sale of the WPT.

Element Partners LLC, a private investment company, has acquired the brand in a deal that could potentially be worth $78 million.

Element Partners LLC will pay $68,250,000 for the WPT, plus an additional 5% of “WPT-branded tournament entry fees on Element-owned or licensed gaming platforms, up to a maximum of $10 million, payable over three years after closing.”

WPT CEO Adam Pliska in a short video released on Twitter.

“We think this deal will allow the World Poker Tour to do a number of things thats it’s always wanted to do,”

Adding

“For myself and my management team, we’re still here and it’s business as usual. We look forward to this exciting opportunity and the next chapter of the World Poker Tour. We look forward to continuing to bring the best in poker around the world.”

The World Poker Tour (WPT)

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is an internationally televised gaming and entertainment brand. 

Started in 2002 by the vision of Steve Lipscomb and financial backing of Lyle Berman, the WPT became a foundational piece of live poker in the world, the World Poker Tour has operated a series of international poker tournaments and associated television series broadcasting playdowns and the final table of each tournament.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) sales history

Gamynia Limited has originally been announced bid a $9 million offer. But it was outbid and acquired by PartyGaming in a 2009 sale for $12.3 million. 

Ourgame, a Hong Kong-listed corporation specializing in social gaming, eventually became the next buyer, paying $35 million for the brand in 2015.

in late 2018, Black Ridge Acquisition Corp. paid $213.8 million for the WPT and Allied Esports International Inc.,

WPT and the Philippines

The inaugural WPT National Philippines was held in 2012 at Solaire Resort and Casino.

The poker room operator negotiated a deal between Solaire and WPT to bring the games to the Philippines in 2012.

The first WPT National Philippines was highly anticipated but was met with disaster. Which was reported by WGM.

Soon after, Poker King Club took over the operation and inherited the WPT dea

Poker King Club went all out. It was also the first time the high-stake tournament, Triton Poker, made a huge presence.

Fedor Holz won the 200,000 USD buy-in event which was filled with the biggest name in poker. Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, David Peter, Daniel Coleman and a lot more.

WPT Philippines 2020

WPT was able to come back in 2020. Held on February 6th to the 17th in a new home, Okada Manila.

However, with the growing reports of the spread of the coronavirus. Some flights were canceled due to concern about the pandemic.

WPT Asia 2021

WPT has already announced the return of live events, including some events in Asia.

Will WPT come back to Manila? One foreigner who was instrumental in bringing WPT to Manila claims he owns the right to hold WPT in the Philippines for many years.

WPT 2020 was held in Okada. He claimed he allowed it to.

But Okada will not be foolish enough to make deals with unknown parties.

Whether the rumors are true. We do hope WPT comes back to Manila soon.
