Poker is not gambling
Publish date: January 18, 2021

Poker is not gambling. For years big poker companies have taken steps to disassociate themselves from gambling.

Legislations are pass, and arguments are held both live and online. Trying to prove poker is not gambling. Players defend themselves of not being a gambler.

There is even an international event called Matchpoker.

Match Poker

Match Poker was devised and developed by the International Federation of Match Poker – which holds Observer Status of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and which has over 65 members federations worldwide – as a team-based mind sport where the element of chance inherent in the “random draw of cards” has been removed.

As a result, it conforms to the GAISF definition of a sport as ‘not relying on any element of luck specifically integrated into the sport.’ IFMP has successfully developed the Match Poker technology including innovative use of smartphones in game-play and administration.

Making Match Poker a true 21st-century mind sport and an eSport.

Millions if not billions were spent on ads

One of the leading poker sites created commercials that connect itself as a sport. Football sensation Neymar Jr has inked a deal with PokerStars so that poker will be seen as a sport.

Various lobbyists are pushing for it in the United States. One of the biggest reasons is probably that the term gambling often is viewed negatively.

If you are playing poker for a living, would you really want to be known as a gambler?

Even media during events would use the words takes a calculated risk instead of taking a gamble.

Is poker gambling?

The word gamble in itself means to play games of chance or take risky action in the hope of a desired result.

But in poker, there are many factors to consider.

Let say you have pocket aces, and then shove it hoping for someone to call. that is where gambling takes place. Whether someone calls or hopefully not suffer a bad beat.

but strategically playing your hand is totally different.

In poker, you can win by having nothing. The amount you can win also depends on your action.

Poker sites and poker apps avoid using the term gambling.

There are just too many negatives impressions when you associate gambling with poker.

People view a gambler as desperate that is why he is taking a huge risk.

But from time to time you would see poker sites use such taboo words.

It does impact highly on the site.

Would Pros and big spenders want to be called gamblers?

Hence when a poker site adds the word gambling on their motto. You really have to ask yourself is this a site you should play?

Does the so-called “poker site” really understand poker?

They did not even try hard enough to think about their motto. They did not even consider their clients.

If they can not even think of a good tagline. what do you think the service will be like?

If one does not hear the sentiment and wisdom of a long winding history. It just haphazard work.

Although such cases are rare, using such taglines is like taking a megaphone and broadcasting an inept team or management.

Looking forward to 2021

Poker is not gambling, and should not be considered as such. it is a mind game where you take calculated risk to win.

Hope to see you soon poker playas!
