“Gwolde” Wins the PokerStars Big Blowout
Publish date: January 16, 2021

After suffering the biggest overlay in poker history. it looks like PokerStars finally got its rhythm back.

Pokerstars first big blowout blew 1.2 million in overlay

Pokerstars a few weeks ago suffered a huge overlay a few weeks back. The first big blowout had a 5 million USD buy-in of only 109 USD.

It needed 50,000 entrees to cover the cost.

However, the Event attracted only 37,673 runners (25,505 unique players and 12,168 re-entries) that led to an overlay of $1,232,700.

The overlay makes it the largest overlay in the history of online poker, beating its own record of $1,205,000.

Pokerstars second Big Blowout surpassed the prize pool

PokerStars Blowout Series: $530 NLHE [8-Max, The Big Blowout!], the second Big Blowout title has been captured for the Netherlands as “Gwolde” defeated “Escapemissio” heads-up after agreeing to a deal.

The Dutch player won $721,692

This time, it had a 12,938 entry field which had a prize pool of $6,469,000 which easily surpassed the $5,000,000 that was set for this tournament.

Why a higher buy-in worked and the lower buy-in failed

The days where a big guarantee with a lower buy-in to attract players may have been long gone.

Truth is, other factors now affect the ability to draw in a large crowd more.

Yes, the first event drew a bigger crowd. 25,505 unique players it joined the first event. but it needed a lot more than that.

Pokerstars is not the only online poker room in the planet.

There have been many online poker sites that have come out.

Yes, Pokerstars as a brand is quite well known. but during the WSOP online series. GG poker growth in Europe went as high as 300%.

Big brands do have drawing power. but there is just too many big brands out there.

Some players just have different taste.

Maybe it is the ease of deposit or withdrawal. maybe it is because of the players there.

A 5 million USD may be tempting. but players have to play long to win it. they have to put in a lot of hours. It takes skills to win the game.

Moving forward

The world is growing every day. Pokerstars is now doing great once again.

But as the world moves, so must growth.

Stay safe and hope to see you soon poker playas!
