Publish date: January 10, 2021

Last year, a surprise entry came into the top 20 of the GPI Philippines 2020 and overall.

Not only was it a surprise entry, but Reggie Bautista also hit number 1 at the Philippines ranking for 2020.

We featured him a few weeks ago which you can read here.

Reggie “Gutshot King” Bautista

The “Gutshot King” topping the 2020

The “Gutshot King” is primarily playing in the United States.

Live poker events were affected heavily due to the coronavirus, but each country has different ways of handling the pandemic.

The United States was actually soft and released quarantine restrictions earlier than its Asian counterpart. By default, more poker tournaments were available in the United States in 2020.

While the Philippines is still in a state of some form of quarantine. There were almost no poker tournaments available for 2020 before the lockdown that was implemented on March 15, 2020.

As of now, gaming establishments are still operating on a limited capacity. There is only 1 poker room that is open in Manila.

For more information.

What to look forward to in 2021 – Pokerstars Live Manila.

As of January 10, 2021 – Pokerstars is the only poker room operating in Manila.

Because of that, Reggie Bautista gains a huge advantage against other local poker players.

Luck or skills?

For 2020, GPI did not award any reward. What Reggie Bautista has right now is an acknowledgment of his achievement.

Yes, he is lucky to be in a country where the restrictions were eased relatively faster.

However, even if restrictions were not eased. There is no guarantee that the other players would have won the tournaments. it was still his skills that helped him win those tournaments.

Crispy and delicious fried chicken. Chickenjoy! Chickenjoy! Chickenjoy!

His total win in poker tournaments actually is higher than some of the players in the top 20.

As each site has different computations for achievements. ie. Hendon Mob base the players on winnings only.

Truth is there is no perfect computation to determine number 1.

But we have a player who is proud to be a Filipino, Playing in the United States.

And for that “Mabuhay”

Listen to some great sounds

2021

2021 is a new year, Poker establishments are slowly re-opening and a vaccine is on the way.

Soon the competition is going to be heavy and healthy. As there is now a new player in town who also wants to be number 1. 2021 will be an exciting year.

Will Reggis Bautista remains on top, will other players be more active in tournaments when poker rooms start offering them, or when players are allowed to fly to different countries to join poker events?

2021 will be an exciting year!

Hope to see you soon poker playas!
