The players that could shape the Asian poker industry in 2021 – Tetsuya Tsuchikawa
Publish date: January 8, 2021

It has been a long time since a live poker tournament graced the Philippines shores. We do miss the live poker tournaments and the people that make them worthwhile.

Cards would fly from one player to the next, chips would go in. There was just something magnetic about poker.

People from different nations would come to compete for the money and the title. One of the biggest active groups would be the Japanese. They would come in big groups. eat dinner together. Cheer their friends on, they would even help them in their booking or recommend which places are good.

They were a tight group.

And they were big. There were events in Asia that were 90% compromise of Japanese players.

But there was one man that pushed it hard to make it happen. His name is Tetsuya Tsuchikawa.

Tetsuya Tsuchikawa.

Tetsuya or Tet to his friend’s official first win was way back in 2010. The Macau poker cup Championship – No Limit hold-em deep stack event and finished in 9th place.

In a career that has span to more than a decade, he was the inspiration of many Japanese poker players to build a poker career.

The man that was once known as “Doyle Brunson of Japan.” He was already a professional poker player when poker was still starting in many parts of Asia.

Good events were still not that many in Asia. But Tet was one of those that was traveling and winning in those events.

Nobody took this space, that is why we are advertizing how good the chicken at Jollibee is, sarap!

Sensei

He was also not selfish in helping players out, whether it was advice on poker or personal lives. He was a teacher to those who were willing to be his student.

The truth is, some of the great players in Asia we know today. They were seeking his wisdom when they were still early on in their career.

He was even a driving force for the Japanese players. He was coordinating with the poker organizer to make sure the Japanese players will have great deals.

He was promoting poker in Japan back when poker was still new.

He would bring them to events and make sure they are comfortable. Organize dinners for players to get to know each other. He would give them advice on how to improve their gameplay. He was a pillar and ambassador of the game.

We miss Tet!

Due to the pandemic and quarantine restrictions. We miss seeing a lot of players in action.

Especially the good players who are down to earth and humble.

As the world opens its doors slowly. We hope to see Tet soon and other Japanese players as well.

But we know when they start coming back to the table, it would be Tet leading the way.

Stay safe and hope to see you soon Poker playas!
