You have to believe in yourself and practice. Play as many tournaments as you can if your bankroll permits it. Watch videos. Read. Read on players your up against. And yeah, play as much as you can. The best way to get better is by experience.”
Poker has taught me a lot about discipline. I made a lot of money playing poker but i spend a lot on tables games and didn’t control my bankroll. I use to tilt a lot but I’m still not there yet, but I am learning. Poker has taught me a lot about discipline. I’m picking it up and every mistake I make, I learn from it. Now I learn to control. The value of money, bankroll management, stupid cycle but I’m learning. I also learn how to read people which I developed while playing poker.”
I am following my dad’s legacy. My dad is one of the respected poker players in the Philippines. One of the poker legends, Sonny Pinon. I admire my dad for that. On April 24, 2008, I asked my dad for my allowance then he told me to see him at Malate as he was playing poker. He gave me 2k. The guard won’t even let me in because I was young. My dad asked me if I want to try. I played the 10-20 blinds, I won. He gave me half of it. I started playing poker tournaments because I was afraid to play cash games.
Playing poker is not gambling. Poker is a sports game, a mind game. 90% of the players play to win and earn money than the rest just play for fun. Now I play the tournaments and had experienced to become a champion.”
One of the things I realized is that club players tend to be friendly. They may be ruthless on the table but overall they have a good heart. I made quite a few friends through poker. You can make friends wherever you go as long as you share a similar interest. In Manila, I made a handful of pretty good friends. Just keep an open mind and have fun while competing.”
